Finding the ki in aikido

First Richard Sensei showed us a couple of stretches which makes sitting in seiza more bearable.

Then we warmed up with some awareness exercises that Sensei learnt from Chris Crudelli (of Mind, Body and Kick Ass fame).

For the rest of the session we used the jo, and in particular the fragment from the 31 jo kata known as the 6 jo kata, to explore the developmental stages of aikido.

Stage 1: postural and structural correctness (the physical shapes and choreography)

Stage 2: the development of internal power

Stage 3: using imagery and relaxation to generate energy power
